Congressman Jerry McNerney's Message to Rally 119

We met congressman Mr. McNerney yesterday!

We didn't know him by the face at the time but one of our demonstrators tried to explain to him, who stand by watching, how congress failed to pass balance of budget act and certain unscrupulous politicians, think-tanks and media outlets fabricated an imaginary enemy out of China. That resulted in even 6-year old boys and girls were instilled with the deep racial hatred for Chinese and Chinese American. He just laughed and told us that he know a lot of details about the U.S. Debt issue and China's holdings. Then he quietly walked into the rally and listened.

He is among the 5% of people we met during the demonstration who actually knows about the National Debt issue. A day later, he revealed his presence and sent a warm message to rally 119 organizers in San Francisco.

I extend my support to APAPA and all of the attendees of the Rally Against Racism in San Francisco. It is unacceptable that any group be the target of blatant racism or hate speech, specifically Chinese and Asian Americans who have contributed so much to our nation's economy and culture. Yet, it is impressive and a testament to the Chinese and Asian American communities that they can unify and fight against hatred while raising awareness against acts of intolerance.

As a member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus I remain committed to helping bring peace and understanding to all people in our country and around the world.  Our work will only be done when all people can live without fear of violence or racism.

I wish you all success in your efforts, and know that I am with you there in spirit and solidarity.

Congressman Jerry McNerney
